All Performances Have Sold Out

A tale about daring to be different, our story starts with Troy, the school basketball star and Gabriella, possibly the cleverest girl around in a very unfamiliar situation. Having been thrown together in a karaoke contest whilst on a New Year’s Holiday they both realise that they have another growing interest – not just in the singing but in each other... So when Gabriella’s mother gets a transfer to the same area as Troy and Gabriella starts at the same High School it looks like our two heroes can re-unite and live happily ever after – or maybe not!

In step their well meaning friends Chad and Taylor and not so well meaning school drama divas: Sharpay and Ryan who are not so keen on the amount of time Troy and Gabriella are spending together rehearsing for their audition in the school musical or the effect it seems to be having on the rest of the school.

Will our two budding stars find a way to overcome the obstacles placed in front of them and make everyone realise that they really are All In This Together?

"To dream that you have FAME, denotes unrealized achievements and disappointed aspirations."

FAME COSTS AND RIGHT HERE IS WHERE YOU START PAYING

All under the watchful eyes of their experienced college tutors, who offer advice and words of wisdom to the exuberant, nervous and sometimes naive students. But student life isnt always a song and dance! Personal tragedy can strike, to even the most talented ......

Embrace this production of high energy, professionally choreographed dance routines, invigorating upbeat musical numbers, and leave the theatre singing to one of the most famous numbers ever since it was shown on TV in the eighties! FAME.

The Beggar's Opera Image

The Beggar's Opera

York Opera

Wednesday 14 May to Saturday 17 May 2008

The first and most famous of ballad operas, The Beggar's Opera is a lively satire of eighteenth century political life, in which beggars, thieves, fences, lawyers, prostitutes and gaolers clash and squabble, in their attempt to worm money out of all and sundry (and each other!).

First performed in 1728, the piece pokes fun at operatic convention by being based on low-life characters - the hero is an amoral highwayman who marries for convenience, pretends to marry two wives simultaneously and is betrayed by his 'so-called' friends.

Written by John Gay, The Beggar's Opera uses songs culled from contemporary songbooks, from other composers and from the traditional folk area. York Opera are using the Frederick Austin score, and the show will be directed by Clive Marshall and musically directed by Steve Griffiths.

Last Tango in Whitby

By Mike Harding

Rowntree Players

Wednesday 1 October to Saturday 4 October 2008

For Pat, recently widowed, this years charabanc trip to Whitby is tinged with sadness. She is determined to enjoy herself, however, in the company of her old friends — warm, kind hearted Jimmy and Joan; gentle, innocent Jessie; Maureen; even garrulous, know-it-all Henry and interfering, outspoken Kathleen.

The holiday gets off to a lively start as Phil and Edna, "The Shangri-Las", provide evening entertainment in the form of old-time dancing. Phil, too, is trying to enjoy himself, despite being trapped in a dead, loveless marriage, and it is during their first dance together that he and Pat feel the unexpected spark of mutual attraction. To the disapproval of friends and family, they decide to sieze this second chance and start a new life together....

Directed by John Hall and co-directed by Caroline Heppell.
