Cole Porter’s crowd-pleasing classic musical
The University of York’s Central Hall Musical Society
Thursday 16 February to Saturday 18 February 2017
The University of York’s Central Hall Musical Society is delighted to be presenting their annual large-scale production at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre for the first time after a series of overwhelmingly successful shows performed on campus and elsewhere in York.
Join us aboard the SS American as we set sail from New York to England with a whole host of crazy characters, accompanied by Cole Porter’s best known and most loved songs.
This classic musical will be brought to life with sensational energy (and plenty of tap dancing) by a cast of 40 talented students, many of whom hope to pursue a career in musical theatre after graduating. Catch them at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre before you see them in the West End!
Two brothers, one of them a king – but which one?
The University of York Gilbert & Sullivan Society
Thursday 23 February to Saturday 25 February 2017
The gondolier brothers Marco and Giuseppe Palmieri are the most charming bachelors in all of Venice, and today they will each choose a bride. All is well for 30 happy minutes - until the Grand Inquisitor of Spain appears to inform the brothers that one of them is in fact the son of the late King of Barataria. The only problem is, nobody is quite sure which brother it is.
Elsewhere, the penniless Duke of Plaza-Toro and his overbearing wife arrive from Spain to seek the king, who was married to their daughter Casilda when they were both infants. Unfortunately for Casilda, she is already in love with Luiz the drummer boy. Will any of our couples get their happy ending?
The Gondoliers will be our 45th main show since the society's formation in 1972, and with a stellar cast and cleverly updated script, it promises to be one of our best shows yet!
No booking fees for any show at Joseph Rowntree Theatre.
