Coming early November, York Theatre Royal have the perfect first time opera for all ages; Mozart's last great operatic work, The Magic Flute, sung in English with accompanying orchestra.
The story follows Prince Tamino and his quest to resuce his beloved Pamina from the grasp of her mother, the evil Queen of Night, and return with her to the world of light persided over by Sarastro, the High Priest of Isis and Osiris.
A wonderful combination of outstanding, grand operatic arias and delightfully tuneful lighter songs, all linked by spoken dialogue and set against a background in which the power of light and enlightment overcomes the darkness of night and superstition.
The Magic Flute was first performed barely a month before the composer's death in 1791, at the age of 35.
The Magic Flute runs from Tuesday 2nd November through to Saturday 6th November. Tickets available through the York Theatre Royal website.
And there's plenty of musical shows happening at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, from Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr., Magnificent Bublé at Christmas and Rowntree Player's annual pantomime pannanza, Dick Whittington.
