Working as part of the board of charity trustees, we are seeking to recruit two additional trustees to support and manage our volunteers.
About the roles
We are recruiting two trustees to take up the positions of Directors of Volunteering. The appointed trustees will be responsible for organising the scheduling of volunteers for both front of house and backstage roles. The workload is shared between the two trustees.
As a charity which operates the theatre’s day-to-day activities and a volunteer base of 150 people, we are looking to recruit a couple of brilliant people who will be crucial in ensuring the effective running of each production.
The roles involve:
The coordination of the volunteers is mainly done electronically using an online database and communication tools, so having excellent computer skills is a must to ensure you can effectively carry out the role. Whilst there are established processes already in place, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to make your own mark on how the roles are carried out.
The time commitment varies depending on the activities in the theatre. However, we anticipate approximately 4-6 hours per week during the busy periods of scheduling and organising the volunteers.
In addition, you will attend 12 trustee meetings each year (approx. 2 hours per meeting, usually held on the first Monday of each month). We also ask all trustees to volunteer to act as duty managers for 2-4 shows per month (approx. 4 hours over the course of the evening, usually between the hours of 6-10pm).
Benefits the role would provide
Involvement in one of the country’s top community-led theatres, working with remarkable people from across a wide range of backgrounds to deliver great entertainment to the people of York.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking two new trustees who are able to provide their skills, time and interest in community theatre to help us make a real difference to our volunteers and to users of the theatre.
As well as requiring excellent computer skills, the role demands excellent communication skills and enthusiasm about managing our volunteers. The new trustees will have a willingness to get involved in helping run the Joseph Rowntree Theatre for the community.
