York Community Choir Festival 2019
The 4th annual festival offers everything from classical and traditional to jazz and not forgetting 60s, 70s and 80s pop, songs from the shows, all in a range of different styles but all delivered exuberantly.
Choirs great and small and young and old and all from York and North & East Yorkshire.
A true community event that is certain to entertain whatever your musical taste.

Dunnington Community Choir
Since 2002, Dunnington Community Choir has gone from strength to strength. What started as a small group of singers at the Methodist church, soon became a large community choir, performing their first public concert to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. We have fundraised for various worthy causes over the years and brought the joy of music to young and old alike. We are delighted to be part of the York Community Choir festival again in 2019.
Community Chorus is a fun and friendly choir with a great family feel. Set up in 2016 as a social singing group with no intention of doing concerts the choir now has over 70 members in it’s afternoon and evening sessions and regularly performs concerts in and around York.
Jubilate Ladies Choir welcomes ladies of any age who enjoy singing. A wide range of musical styles means that there is always a challenge. Our Musical Director is enthusiastic and raises our confidence and ability to performance levels. Jubilate gives concerts throughout the year and sing at charity and family events.
Hempland Community Choir
In 2015 adults in the Hempland Primary School community wanted to sing in a new choir. Membership has now widened and we perform regularly around York. We meet once a week to share our love of singing a diverse repertoire and to meet socially.

Stagecoach Performing Arts Youth Choir
Stagecoach Performing Arts York has been running for 20 years, providing weekly classes to children of all abilities from the age of 4 to 18. Stagecoach York began with just 18 students, now we have over 300 students attending classes each week.
The Stonegate Singers have been making music together since January 2017. We sing acapella vocal harmony from around the world, and we enjoy creating new music with our director, composer Jon Hughes. Recent highlights include singing in a limestone gorge at Creswell Crags, being broadcast on BBC Radio, and performing at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival with Indian Singer Supriya Nagarajan.
Formed in 2013, In Harmony has gone from strength to strength under the guidance of Musical Director Margaret Garvey, and regularly enjoy performing concerts in the community for charities and care homes.
TadChorale are again delighted to be involved in the York Community Choir Festival. We are a community choir, based in Tadcaster, and have been singing together now for almost 20 years. All genres of music are included in our repertoire and we regularly perform concerts in and around the Tadcaster area.

We are a friendly group of ladies united in our love of close harmony singing and are pleased to be taking part again this year! We sing acapella three and four part harmony to a varied repertoire of folk, swing, pop and spirituals.
Euphonics Ladies Choir is a lively and expanding choir originally formed to compete in the 2014 W.I. Choral Competition. The choir continues to evolve under Amanda’s lively baton, performing a wide range of light music, show tunes, jazz and folk.
The Choir started out over 20 years ago as a very small church choir serving the Garrowby Benefice. It has evolved into a group of like-minded ladies who still sing in church, but also enjoy singing secular pieces.
York Celebration Singers
The York Celebration Singers present four-part light musical entertainment. Originally from York Youth Operatic and Choral Society, its eleven members have enjoyed making music together since 1995. Our diverse repertoire ranges from Gilbert & Sullivan to Lloyd-Webber, Abba to Lennon & McCartney.

SHQ Barbershop Quartet
Formed with just 11 members in 1993 the full chorus now has over 50 members – a small contingent of whom are appearing at this year’s festival again. The Chorus has regularly featured in the top 5 of the annual “British Association of Barbershop Singers” convention, winning 4 National Bronze Medals along the way.
Stamford Bridge Community Choir
Stamford Bridge Community Choir was formed in 2016. It is a group of 60 women who claim that they can’t sing or read music but we hope from this evening you will see that they can! We provide free concerts in our local community and around York just asking for donations for local charities which are close to our hearts. We were lucky last year to be involved in a huge project where we got to collaborate with professional musicians to create a song that we performed at the Bridlington Spa and which we will perform this evening. The whole project won the Royal Philharmonic Society Award and we are very proud to have played our part in that. We welcome new members to join our choir family, we have lots of fun and probably laugh more than we sing!!!!
Queen Ethelburga’s School Choir
Queen Ethelburga’s Choir comprises of students from years 9-13 at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate. The choir enjoys performing at events both in school, such as Speech Day and the Queen Ethelburga’s Choir Festival, and in the wider community. The choir enjoys singing in a variety of styles.
York Military Wives Choir
The Military Wives Choir York are part of the Military Wives Choir network, which spans across the world. There are now over 80 choirs worldwide. Founded in 2013, the foundation helps women share the enjoyment of singing together. We welcome women from serving personnel, partners to veterans Wives, from those who work in their local military community to those who serve in the military.

Osbaldwick Community Choir
We are a friendly community choir of mixed voices and we sing all kinds of music from classical to contemporary. Since we started six years ago, we have grown to around thirty members, and are keen to continue expanding.
Formed in 2009, the Sounds Fun Singers has grown and developed its own special sound. We have a varied repertoire from jazz, pop and gospel classics to world music and show tunes. We even sing songs written for us! Musical Director Amanda Crawley creates an atmosphere at rehearsals that is fun and stimulating.
The Chorus Crew have been singing in pubs, clubs and care homes etc. in the Harrogate and Knaresborough area for about three years now. We sing a wide range of unaccompanied folk songs and sea shanties and pride ourselves on our interaction with our audiences.
York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir
“The Phil” has been singing in York since 1925. Its 60 members love to sing,and still show the passion and commitment for our music that has sustained the choir over the years. Whether your taste is contemporary or classical, West-End or opera, folk song or spiritual, our repertoire offers musical pleasure.

Tutti Amici Chamber Choir
Tutti Amici is a non-auditioned youth choir for music reading singers 14-18yrs. The choir is part of York Music Forum and rehearses at Vale Academy, Saturdays in term time 12.20-1.30pm. The choir is supported by a training choir, Beatus Cantus 8-13yrs. The choirs perform regularly at St Mary’s Church, Warthill and Castle Howard.
Supersingers are a social adult singing group welcoming everyone who would like to share in the merriment of making music whilst making friends. We enjoy singing music of all genres from Beatles to show tunes, Queen to gospel classics.
York Light Youth Choir
The York Light Youth Choir is formed primarily of performers from York Light Youth who are keen to develop their singing skills. The choir was formed in 2016 and has performed in the York Community Choir Festival in 2017 and 2018. Our singers have also performed around York in various charity concerts and at other events including, most recently, York’s annual Community Carol Concert at The Barbican. In 2018 the choir became a youth choir in all respects: our MD, Conductor and Section Leaders are all musicians aged 17 and under.
Main Street Sound Barbershop Chorus
Main Street Sound is York’s only ladies’ barbershop chorus, established over 20 years ago, and singing close harmony acapella. With 40 ladies of all ages in the chorus we sing a variety of songs from traditional barbershop to Queen! We enjoy singing at local events, competing in music festivals and at our national conventions.
