Governor LeTrump is determined to cast his menacing spell over the city of Paris but with the circus in town, his evil plans slowly begin to unravel. Fortune teller Celia Fate and her son Summer are spreading an air of anarchy among the citizens. Celia’s daughter Esmerelda is proving to be quite a distraction and now even Quasimodo is causing problems every time he sneaks out of the cathedral.

Will LeTrump fine the Court of Miracles? Will Esmerelda get her man? Can Quasimodo escape to save the day?

There’s only one way to find out.

With song, dance, slapstick silliness and all the trappings of a traditional family pantomime you’d be mad to miss it!

The Gondoliers Image

The Gondoliers

Two brothers, one of them a king – but which one?

The University of York Gilbert & Sullivan Society

Thursday 23 February to Saturday 25 February 2017

The gondolier brothers Marco and Giuseppe Palmieri are the most charming bachelors in all of Venice, and today they will each choose a bride. All is well for 30 happy minutes - until the Grand Inquisitor of Spain appears to inform the brothers that one of them is in fact the son of the late King of Barataria. The only problem is, nobody is quite sure which brother it is.

Elsewhere, the penniless Duke of Plaza-Toro and his overbearing wife arrive from Spain to seek the king, who was married to their daughter Casilda when they were both infants. Unfortunately for Casilda, she is already in love with Luiz the drummer boy. Will any of our couples get their happy ending?

The Gondoliers will be our 45th main show since the society's formation in 1972, and with a stellar cast and cleverly updated script, it promises to be one of our best shows yet!
