Cox & Box plus a selection of Gilbert and Sullivan favourites
Two lodgers, one bedroom, one unexpected meeting....
Jorvik Gilbert and Sullivan Company
Saturday 11 April 2015
Adapted from the famous farce Box and Cox, by John Madison Morton, Cox & Box was Sir Arthur Sullivan’s first foray into comic opera.
Sergeant Bouncer, an old soldier, has a scheme to get double rent from a single room. By day he lets it to Mr. Box (a printer who is out all night) and by night to Mr. Cox (a hatter who works all day).
His plan works well until Mr. Cox is, unexpectedly, given a day's holiday and the two lodgers meet, and they discover that they share more than the same bed...
The second act will consist of a selection of some of the most well-known and popular Gilbert and Sullivan music, and will chart the history of the famous and prolific partnership.
A mixture of solos, ensemble pieces and chorus numbers, from a range of shows, including The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado and H.M.S Pinafore, there will be something for everyone to enjoy!

The London Adventist Chorale
Sunday 12 April 2015
The prestigious London Adventist Chorale will be performing a Fundraising Concert in support for the Hilltop Wellness Centre (HWC) in the Philippines. HWC aims to help less-privileged people who could not afford synthetic medications in the hospital but be treated using natural healing remedies. All proceeds would go to the on-going building projects in the centre.
The church-based Chorale formed in 1981 has developed an inspiring and high-calibre repertoire of Classical, Jazz and Gospel songs. Under the helm of Ken Burton, Principal Director, the choir has received musical accolades such as: The Sainsbury's Choir of the Year 1994-1995, The Best Choir award at the BBC Gem Award in 2005.
Their high-quality performance took them to concerts and tours all over the world: Australia, USA, Zimbabwe, Turkey, France, to name a few.
In 2012, The London Adventist Chorale performed at Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee Concert before more than 12,000 guests at Buckingham Palace. And most recently, in September 2013 the Chorale performed at the G8 Speakers Conference at the House of Commons.
Experience the live concert of this prestigious a cappella, choral, negro spiritual, contemporary gospel choir; awarded the Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year 1994 title and regular guest singers on BBC “Songs of Praise” over the years.
