What marketing we do to help promote your show

In order to help promote your show, the theatre implements a wide range of marketing activities. The core elements of this support are included in your hire fee, plus there are options to use additional services.

Core Elements

Brochure

Produced three time a year, 6,000 copies are printed. We mail them out to the theatre’s database (currently 2,200). Copies are delivered to Visit York, York libraries, local guesthouses and hotels. We also hand out the brochure to audiences leaving all shows.  

As part of hiring the theatre you receive a quarter page listing in the brochure

Monthly e-newsletter

Each month the theatre sends and email to its contacts about what is coming up in the month. This email is sent to around 4000 people each month.

York Press theatre advert

Once a month the theatre places an advert on the back page of the What’s On supplement in the York Press, your production will be included in this listing.

Website

As soon as we have all the information we will advertise your show on our website along with a link to our online box office.

Theatre displays

We can display your posters and leaflets within the theatre foyer. We update the poster displays each Monday, and in a strict rotational order, so if you get your posters to us early, we will use the poster for the next show in sequence to replace any blanks.  Posters need to be A1 in size to maximise the space in the displays.

Twitter

All events are featured on the theatre’s automatic Twitter feed, with regular reminders as the show approaches.

  • Daily: Performance today or tomorrow.
  • Weekly: Performances in the next week

Social media is a fantastic way of reaching out to new audiences, and you can help us to make it better by:

Encourage your performers and supporters to follow “jrtheatre”.
Mention “jrtheatre”
Mention www.twitter.com/jrtheatre and www.facebook.com/jrtheatre in your newsletters, especially e-newsletters.
Tag “jrtheatre”
Tag us in your posts (and ask your cast to tag us in posts) when you are auditioning new cast, when you announce a show title, when you are rehearsing, when you are in the theatre – we will “share” this information. 
Share
On Facebook, share our posts about your show! Lots of people click on ‘like’ but sharing is far more effective at spreading the message.
Message us
Message us on Facebook with your pictures, or tag us in them and we will share them. Posts with pictures get read twice as often as those without.

Weekly Hirers

In addition to the services outlined above weekly hirers also receive the following additional marketing support.  Please visit our specification page for details of images we require.

Brochure

As a weekly hire you space in the brochure is increased to half a page to include an image for your production.

Email

We will use the show information you provide as content to send a promotional email to targeted data set of our customers to help boost the promotion of your event.

York Press

Each month we include your show in an advertorial advert on the back page of the York Press What's On supplement, the space provided for each show is around 80 words plus an image.

Facebook - Show listing

We will promote your show on the Joseph Rowntree Theatre Facebook page through regular posts to our followers.

Facebook - Advert

To help support you with your marketing of the show we will place a Facebook advert to help raise awareness of your production to a wider audience than just our followers. The advert will run for one week.

Visit York

Joseph Rowntree Theatre is a member of Visit York as part of this membership we are able to:

  • List your show on the Visit York events database.
  • Place our theatre brochure in the Visit York tourist information offices.
  • Submit information to Visit York to be included in their monthly newsletter.
  • Submits news or offers for editorial consideration in their Weekly News - content and images are provided by the hirer.

This information is available to both visitors and local guest house and hotel owners so is a great way to spread news about your event to a wider audience.
