Falsettos is a sung-through musical by William Finn and James Lapine, consisting of March of the Falsettos (1981) and Falsettoland (1990). The story centres on Marvin, who has left his wife and son to be with his male lover, Whizzer, and struggles to keep his family together in the way he has idealised. A beautiful and heart-breaking story exploring the definitions of maturity and masculinity through this non-traditional family as the AIDS pandemic comes to light.
