In 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When she wins a role on the show she becomes a celebrity overnight and uses her influence to advocate for racial integration. Hairspray is one of the most widely produced musicals, not only because of its wit and charm, but also because of its message of acceptance and progress, teaching us to look past skin colour and fight for everyone’s equal rights. Popular songs from the show include ‘Good Morning Baltimore’, ‘The Nicest Kids in Town’ and ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’.
