The Joseph Rowntree Theatre is a much-loved independent theatre and community venue in York, run by a charitable trust. We are seeking additional Trustees to join our Board and play an active, hands-on role in supporting the theatre’s day-to-day operation as well as its long-term future.
We believe theatre should be welcoming, accessible and inspiring for everyone and the Joseph Rowntree Theatre plays a vital role in the local community. Trustees of the Joseph Rowntree Theatre are also Directors of the charity, and this is a practical role for people who are willing to get involved and contribute their time, skills and experience.
As a Trustee, you will help safeguard the theatre’s values and purpose, support its sustainability, and ensure it continues to serve the diverse communities of York for generations to come.

You do not need previous trustee or director experience. What matters most is a commitment to the theatre, a willingness to take responsibility, and an ability to work collaboratively as part of a small, dedicated team.

Duty Managers play a key role in ensuring performances and events run safely and smoothly, acting as the responsible on-site presence during events.
