Stage Managers and Stage Crew

Our Stage Managers and Stage Crew usually volunteer at weekends during the hours of 10am and 10pm and weekday evenings 6pm to 10pm. However, it is only the Stage Manager for each show who will be expected to be there for the full run - everyone else volunteers just when they are free.

Volunteers should be 18 years of age or over. Volunteer opportunities for people aged 16 and 17 are available but are limited to followspot operators.

No experience is needed as we will train and support you to ensure you are confident in carrying out all necessary activities. Whether you can donate one evening or a series of evenings in a week, the stage crew team work together to ensure the smooth running of all productions.

STAGE MANAGERS
We are seeking volunteers to work alongside our stage managers to support the set up and running of our shows. Each show operates with two stage managers so there is plenty of opportunity to learn new skills with a view to becoming a stage manager yourself.

Our stage managers work on a rota basis, covering the whole or part of a particular production. Availability on a Sunday is ideal as that is when our large productions set up. The schedule for cover is agreed at least a month in advance so you can plan when you are volunteering.

In addition to managing the production, one of the two stage managers will usually plan and operate the stage lighting system during the show. On the job training on the lighting board and setting up lights will be provided.

BACKSTAGE CREW
There are several backstage roles including helping to build and prepare the show, as well as flying scenery or operating sound or lights during the production. We are also interested in volunteers who can help on Sundays from 10am to 2pm to support the stage managers with setting up productions as well as during the show.

FOLLOWSPOTS
Our follow spot operators highlight cast members' performances from their position in the theatre roof space. You will learn to operate the lights to create dramatic effects onstage. The roof space is, of course, high up in the building so you need to be happy working at heights.
No experience is needed as we will train and support you to ensure you are confident in carrying out all necessary activities. Whether you can donate one evening or a series of evenings in a week, the stage crew team work together to ensure the smooth running of all productions.
