Role - Marketing Volunteer Social Media

What is a typical volunteering day/week?

When the theatre is open it’s my role to help promote the variety of shows across all our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter). I have input from other members of the marketing team with non show promotion posts (a lot of these at the minute are virtual theatre performances and fundraising) and we’re in the middle of releasing our storyboard history of the theatre!

What takes up most of your time?

I feel the thing that takes the most time is sourcing the images I need to put with the right post (and having a slow computer doesn’t help haha!), we have a large catalogue of images from shows past and present as well as the theatre itself from times gone by, but choosing the right image for the right post is also quite fun as you can see how things have changed over the years.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

I love being able to share with everyone what we’ve got coming up at the theatre and seeing people engage with all the posts, it just shows you what the theatre means to so many.

What is the most frustrating?

Nothing frustrates me really, but Twitter’s character limit is a bit of a pain, it means I have to try to figure out what is the most important information within a post, ultimately cutting out things that I thought would work good!

What projects are you working on at the moment?

As previously mentioned, I’ve been working with Christine (another member of our marketing team) to create some posts that follow the theatre through a ‘storyboard’, a couple of these posts have already gone out and we have a few more still to go!

What’s been a highlight of your work?

Meeting so many people that love theatre and see it much of a passion as I do. Joseph Rowntree Theatre is a theatre that is right in the heart of the city, and I really enjoy being a part of such a helpful and welcoming team.
